Hello! My name is Elliot Concannon and I am 17 years old. My father, John Concannon, was diagnosed with colon cancer when I was nine years old. The doctors were relieved as they thought that they had caught the disease on time and were confident that my dad would make a full recovery. He did eventually recover, and he even rang the bell at the Siteman Cancer Center at the end of his treatment to symbolize his victory over cancer. However, less than a year later, my dad went back to the doctor for another checkup because he was having similar symptoms. They disclosed that, unbeknownst to him, my dad's cancer had spread, an aggressive form of cancer called signet ring. The doctors didn’t give us much hope, and within one year, my father passed away. It was a devastating loss for my family. This ride is a tribute to him and everything he stood for—kindness, friendliness, and respect for all people.
I have been riding Pedal the Cause with Powered by Hope Team since 2016. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's largest cancer fundraiser. It's a way of life, a celebration, a family and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer.
Please help me reach my goal, so we can put an end to cancer and stop it from creating more tragedies for families across the world.
