Why I Ride for Cancer Research
My Son's Journey
Lorenzo Dalla is my 8-year-old son, and he is the joy of my life. He is a bright, energetic, and creative boy who loves Minecraft, playing sports (mainly ice hockey), going to school, and having fun with his friends and family. He is also a cancer survivor.
In April 2023, we received the devastating news that Lorenzo had a type of cancer known as Burkitt's lymphoma, a fast-growing tumor that affects the lymphatic system. It was a shock for us, as he had no symptoms or signs of illness until a few days before his diagnosis. We were scared, confused, and overwhelmed by the situation, but we knew we had to act fast and start his treatment as soon as possible.
Lorenzo underwent six rounds of intensive chemotherapy at the Children's Hospital, where he received the best care and support from the doctors, nurses, and staff. He also had to endure many tests, procedures, and side effects, such as hair loss, nausea, fatigue, and infections. He was brave, strong, and resilient throughout his ordeal, and he never lost his smile or his spirit. He amazed us with his courage and his optimism, and he inspired us with his faith and his hope.
Thanks to God, and thanks to the advances in cancer research and treatment, Lorenzo got to ring his bell in August 2023, signaling the end of his therapy and the beginning of his recovery. He has been doing great ever since, and he is back to his normal life of playing, learning, and growing. He is a miracle, and we are so grateful for his healing and his health.
Why I Ride
As a father, I am proud of my son and his journey, and I want to honor him and his fight by riding for cancer research. I also ride in memory of my father, Mario Dalla, who passed away in April 2023 from a brain tumor - stage 4 glioblastoma. He was a loving, generous, and wise man who taught me many valuable lessons and who supported me in every aspect of my life. He was also a fighter, who battled his disease with dignity and grace until the end. He was my hero, and I miss him every day.
These two are the reason why I ride, and why I want to raise money and awareness for cancer research. I believe that research is the key to finding better treatments, cures, and prevention for this terrible disease that affects millions of people around the world. I also believe that by riding, I can make a difference in the lives of those who are facing cancer, and those who will face it in the future. I ride for them, and for all the cancer warriors and angels who have touched my heart.
I ride because I have hope, and I hope you will join me in this cause. Together, we can make a positive impact and help end cancer once and for all. Thank you for your support and your generosity.
