Pedal the Cause

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. I was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma on the right side of my tongue in December of 2017. In January I underwent surgery to remove the tumor and reconstruct my tongue using material from my left wrist and left arm artery. I had my right side lymph nods removed and also went through 6 weeks of radiation therapy during the spring of 2018. I lost my taste for about 9 weeks. I am thankful to have most of my taste back and also mostly functioning salivary glands. It is through the research, volunteers, and innovative doctors at Siteman who developed the less invasive surgical processes and limited radiation therapies that my outcome has been so great. I am thankful to those researchers who are always looking to the next innovation.
