Three years ago, our lives were forever changed when my wife, Brianna Kleinow, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 28. Brianna, a vibrant and energetic soul, was known for her passion for life and her unyielding spirit. Her diagnosis came as a shock to us, but in true Brianna fashion, she faced it with strength and determination.
It all started with subtle symptoms that Brianna initially dismissed as everyday discomforts. She experienced bloating, abdominal pain, and a feeling of fullness quickly after eating. As the symptoms persisted, she decided to see a doctor. After several tests, the diagnosis was clear: stage III ovarian cancer. Further analysis revealed that she had a rare and aggressive form known as Clear Cell Carcinoma. The news was devastating, but Brianna was not one to back down from a fight.
From the outset, Brianna's approach was one of unwavering optimism. She tackled her treatment plan head-on, which included surgery and several rounds of chemotherapy. The physical toll was immense, but Brianna’s spirit never wavered. She often said that her battle was not just for herself, but for our family and everyone she loved. She wanted to show that cancer, no matter how aggressive, would not define her.
Today, Brianna continues her fight with chemotherapy, enduring the challenges with the same relentless courage that has defined her journey from the start. Despite the ongoing treatments, her spirit never wavers. She remains a source of strength for everyone around her, proving that even in the face of adversity, one can find the power to keep moving forward.
Inspired by her journey, as her husband, I have taken on the challenge of riding in Pedal the Cause, a community fundraiser supporting cancer research. It is my way of honoring Brianna and her incredible strength. Each pedal stroke is a tribute to her resilience and a step towards a future where no one else must face this battle.
Brianna’s story is not just about surviving cancer; it’s about thriving despite it. Through Pedal the Cause, we can pedal towards a world free from cancer. Her journey continues to inspire us all, reminding us that with every challenge comes an opportunity to rise, fight, and ultimately, overcome.
