Once again, I am riding 30 miles for Pedal the Cause. I am currently receiving treatment for multiple myeloma, cancer of the plasma, with Dr. Vij and his team at the Siteman Center.
Because this battle with cancer has become personal, it brings me closer to the people I have ridden for in the past. I have always ridden to honor my family members and students who have survived cancer: my grandmother, Martha Hoffmann; my husband, Bill Schiller; former student Camden Wright. Also to honor those who have lost their battle with cancer: my mom, Verna Kellenberger; my aunt, Jean Kellenberger; my aunt Gloria Milbrath; former student, Alaina Bickhaus, and the lovely Anne Schiller. But this year I ride for myself as a way to say to cancer: You can't take me down! I know, the future is no place to place your better days (per DMB) and plan to be present now to live that truth.
Pedal the Cause has the mission to provide funding for cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital through their annual cycling challenge in the hope that the research funded by their event will ultimately lead to a cure for cancer.
Please help me in this journey to find a cure by donating to my ride. I have committed to raise $375 for cancer research and 100% of your donation will go directly to this cause.
