Last year, I was diagnosed with skin cancer, specifically Basal Cell Carcinoma on the side of my neck. Although Basal Cell Carcinoma is non-life threatening and the most common form of skin cancer, it was scary news and a wake-up call to my own health, mortality, and faith. My family, girlfriend, close friends, and colleagues whom I shared the news with all rallied behind me and encouraged me to not let this disease get the best of me and learn from the experience.
Right before the Christmas holiday in late December 2023, I underwent Moh's surgery to remove a chunk of skin from my neck, about the size of a quarter. The surgery went smoothly, and I was fortunate to hear that all surrounding areas of my neck were clear of skin cancer. I am extremely grateful to Ashley McGuiness, MD and her staff for treating me and highly recommend Laser & Dermatologic Surgery Center in Chesterfield, MO for anyone needing skin cancer related treatments or surgery.
While I live with a small scar on my neck that will hopefully fade with time, there are millions of other Americans that are not so lucky. The fight against cancer is real and I am proud to join Pedal the Cause to help further fund more research and save and protect the lives of millions of people nationwide. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's largest cancer fundraiser. It's a way of life, a celebration, a family and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer.
