Pedal the Cause

My friend, my husband, my father –

Dr. William Sciortino, born November 24, 1955, died July 20, 2024 after the sudden onset and discovery of a brain tumor. He was surrounded by those who loved him and who love him still. His family who were all there when he needed them most and his friends both near and far, who followed from wherever they were, all hoped for the best.

The best was not to be and we mourn his passing with the deepest sorrow and disbelief that this strong, powerful, brilliant and funny man will no longer be with us. A bon-vivant who loved travel, fine food, gardening, biking and so many things that can’t be captured in a few lines. He was our family and he was our friend and that says it all.

Bill, basketball and football star and graduate of St Louis Priory High School, Yale University and St Louis University Medical School, went on to a long career saving eyesight as an ophthalmologist. He will be remembered fondly and greatly missed by his patients as well as his partners and coworkers at St. Louis Eye Clinic.

Bill is survived by his wife Amy (Kibler) his daughters Emily Unger (Robert) and Madeline Sciortino (Clayton Schaeffer), his siblings, Francesca Sciortino, Dr. Rosellen Meystrik and Dr. Robert Sciortino (Dr. Patricia McGuire) and was proceeded in death by John Sciortino.

Visitation will be held at Bopp Chapel Friday, August 2nd 4-8pm. A memorial mass will be celebrated at the St. Louis Abbey (St. Anselm Parish) at 2pm on Saturday, August 3rd. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory are gratefully appreciated to Pedal for the Cause .Bill began biking while in medical school and since has enjoyed biking locally and traveling to other states and countries to bike. The Moonlight Ramble was one of his favorite rides.
